The Ulysses Mission was a joint ESA-NASA mission designed to orbit the Sun and study the space environment around it at all latitutdes. It launched in October of 1990, and the original mission was extended four times, until the spacecraft was ultimately shut down in the face of multiple hardware in June 2009.
