Description published by the archive

The Hayabusa (formerly MUSES-C) mission was a JAXA mission that successfully encountered and collected sampled from asteroid (25143) Itokawa in September-November 2005, returning those samples to Earth. The spacecraft itself burned up on reentry into Earth's atmosphere, as planned.
