The Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) mission monitors changes in the solar wind, providing space weather alerts and forecasts or geomagnetic storms that could disrupt power grids, satellites, telecommunications, aviation, and GPS. It orbits at the L1 (Lagrange 1) point between the Earth and the Sun and was launched on February 11, 2015.
